‘Aurora’ and ‘The Little Mermaid’ are among the top-grossing films in U.S. theaters this weekend: Study

“The Aurora” is one of the top grossing films of the year, earning an estimated $7.5 million on Sunday for a total of $26.1 million, according to The Motion Picture Association of America.

The other top-earning films are “The Little Prince” ($8.9 million), “Gravity” ($5.7 million), and “The Grand Budapest Hotel” ($4.6 million).

The weekend was also a record-setting debut for “Auroral,” according to IMDb, with an estimated 7.5 billion views on YouTube.

The film stars Kristen Stewart, Kate Winslet, Kristen Bell, Rooney Mara, and Tilda Swinton.

The film also features a surprise appearance from director Wes Anderson, who is a frequent collaborator on the film with “Avengers: Age of Ultron” director Joss Whedon.

The Aurora is the first feature film in the franchise since Disney’s 2005 sequel, “Ariel.”

Disney is currently in the middle of producing a sequel, and the studio has also started a prequel to the film.

Disney and Universal Pictures’ “Aursa” grossed $6.4 million from 2,521 theaters in its first three days in release.

It is the second-highest debut of 2017 behind the “Alfie” that opened to $10.1 billion on Friday.
