(AP) — Florida is set to become the first state in the nation to require a large animal room design for an outdoor movie theater, after the city council approved a resolution to do so Thursday.
The resolution requires that the room have a large, open area for a variety of animals and that it be designed to maximize natural light and ventilation and have a separate and separated room for pets and humans, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said in a news release.
It will be up to the city to decide how to implement the new rules.
The council also passed a resolution declaring Oct. 31 a holiday in celebration of animals, including the endangered black bear, or Black Bear.
The Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Code calls it a public holiday to honor animals.
The proposal was submitted to the commission in late June by the city’s mayor, who said it would be a great way to showcase the city for its diverse community and show the public how the city has grown in recent years.
The city of Jacksonville was the first in the state to require large animal rooms, with the resolution approved Wednesday by the City Council.
In 2015, the city also enacted a motion to make the animal room an indoor facility, allowing the city and other parks and open spaces to adopt and adopt the rules.
This is an exciting day for the city of Jax and for the entire state of Florida, said Councilwoman Mary Pat Manley, a Democrat.
We are very proud of what we have accomplished in such a short time, and we will keep working to make Jacksonville the best place to go for entertainment and recreation.
The move comes as Florida is working to create a statewide plan for outdoor entertainment, including theaters, movie theaters, amusement parks, festivals and festivals-style events.
It’s part of a broader effort to make outdoor entertainment more accessible and affordable.
The City Council voted 7-0 to approve the resolution to require the design.
The resolution will go to the full council for approval.
The city is expected to consider the resolution in January.
